From Memory

I sat opposite her on the 6 Line from Brooklyn Bridge to
68th Street. 4 hours later I decided to draw her from memory.

On line

Something a little different. Using the same fountain pen
and also a napkin and water. Line or tone, which should lead?

Same day different bus

Winter light floods the bus.

Bus only today

Turns out I lost my cell phone in the taxi last night.
I found this out when I received a call in the a.m. (on home phone)
from a very nice person who found it. So today its drawing
and no cell phone activity at same time and to be extra
sure...daylight travel in buses.

Cab Uptown

After drinks and pizza with my classmates who include Erin whose
birthday is soon, the inventor of pizza, and my "older sister", I drop
into a taxi uptown and home. Ahh, to blog and to bed.

Beth and Lem

Quickly sketching a figure to sit in space is sometimes challenging.
I generally draw as a prelude to painting so although this one
is kind of sketchy I am curious where this will lead.

A lighter Touch

This sketch also at the Starlite, was done fast and shows a
more comfortable moment. I actually like it. what do you think?

Back to the Starlite

Again the Starlite coffee shop which is actually quite friendly.
My sketch shows the surprise of the opening door letting in
the 17 degree winter air. Or perhaps it reflects my own anxiety.
Anyway, it is a great little coffee shop and they never rush
me when I am sketching. Food is wonderful also.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the midst of our burning raging world I feel
thinking about unity could return us to our senses.

Before the Concert Begins

Right before the concert started this violinist kept moving
from seat to seat. I discovered later during the concert
that their seats do change depending on what is performed.

Violinist

Muti conducts Liszt's "From the Cradle to the Grave"

Riccardo Muti conducted Brahms, Liszt and Scriabin.

Leif Ove Andsnes, Piano

Playing Brahms Concerto No. 2.
Fantastic to see him play with his whole being. Of course I left off
his head in this sketch thinking that his shoes would say enough.

Starlite coffee shop

Here is the manager working the cash register.

Beth

Here's a simple drawing of Beth.
It captures some of her. But not all her beauty.
Another Starlite sketch. This time the owner in discussion.

Coffee shop

A sketch from my project of drawing at the Starlite coffee shop
at 1st Avenue and 69th Street NYC. I ate more turkey burgers than
I would ever have imagined...and of course...french fries.

Portrait

Here's an old painting of a model at the Art Students League.
I thought of it because Beth is doing a painting of him right now.
I want her to see it so we can compare notes.

Cafe

This sketch was done in a Paris restaurant in December.
On January 1st smoking was banned in restaurants and cafes.
